Enable or disable enhanced folders in the backward-compatible document library

Enhanced folders support all document management features of the backward-compatible document library. If you enable enhanced folder settings, documents must be checked out for editing and checked back in after work is completed. Each time a user checks in a document, Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 adds a new version to the document history.

When you disable enhanced folder settings, thereby changing the enhanced folder to a standard folder, you disable check-in, check-out, versioning, and private document views for that folder.

Enabling or disabling enhanced folders.

  1. Ensure that the folder you want to configure is empty. You cannot enable check-in, check-out, and versioning for folders that contain documents.
  2. Right-click the folder you want to configure, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the General tab on the Properties page, and then select or clear the Enable Enhanced Folders check box.
  4. Click OK.
