Create a Web folder or Network Place for a backward-compatible document library

To access the backward-compatible document library, you must create a Web folder or a Network Place.

Before you create a Web folder or Network Place, it is recommended that you see your system administrator or Internet service provider for the URL of a Web server that supports Web folders.

Note  Network Places and Web folders are equivalent. In this topic, if the term Web folders is used and you have a computer running Windows 2000, substitute the term My Network Places.

Create a Web folder from My Computer

  1. In My Computer, double-click Web Folders.
  2. Double-click Add Web Folder.
  3. Follow the instructions in the Add Web Folder Wizard.

Create a Web folder from a Microsoft Office 2003 application

  1. In the Office application, click File, and then click Open.
  2. In the Open dialog box, click Web Folders on the Look In bar.
  3. You can create a Web folder or base a Web folder on an existing Web server location:
    • To add a Web folder, click the Create New Folder icon on the toolbar, and then follow the instructions in the Add Web Folder Wizard.
    • To base a new Web folder on an existing Web server location, type the Web address in the File name box, and then click OK.

      For example, type http://server_name/ to create a Web folder at that destination.
