Configure folder inheritance in the backward-compatible document library
Configure folder inheritance in the backward-compatible document library
When you create a subfolder in the backward-compatible document library, it inherits security settings from its parent folder by default. You can choose to have the security settings on the subfolders change dynamically when the parent folder settings change, or you can choose not to inherit dynamically. When inheritance is canceled, the subfolders retain their security settings even if the settings on the parent folder change. You configure the inheritance settings for subfolders on the parent folder.

- In the backward-compatible document library, find the folder for which you want to configure inheritance settings by using the network place for the document library.
- Right-click the folder for which you want to configure inheritance settings, and then click Properties.
- Click the Security tab.
- Select the appropriate check boxes to configure the folder inheritance settings:
- Select the Use parent folder's security settings check box to inherit folder security settings and role memberships from the folder where this folder resides. If you select this option, you cannot add or remove users from the folder or change user role assignments unless you clear the check box.
- Select the Reset all subfolders to use these security settings check box to propagate all security settings on this folder to all subfolders of this folder. If you select this option, you cannot change security or role settings for the affected subfolders unless you clear the Use parent folder's security settings check box on the affected subfolders.
- Click Apply.
- Click Yes.
- Click OK.
