The folders that you create are the foundation for the user experience within the backward-compatible document library. You can either create folders or import existing folders from your file structure. Because these folders are where users store and work with their documents, it is important to choose a folder type based on document management needs.
If you are a coordinator for a folder, right-click the folder and click Properties to change the following folder settings:
Important You cannot enable or disable enhanced folder settings for a folder that contains documents. To change this setting, you must first remove all documents from the folder.
If a folder has the Use Parent Folder's Security Settings check box selected, subfolders, whether new or imported, automatically inherit properties and settings from their parent folders. For example, if the target folder is an enhanced folder, the imported folders become enhanced folders.
If the target folder is a standard folder, the imported folders become standard folders. Roles inherited from the parent folder change dynamically when roles on the parent folder change.
Note Subfolders inherit approval routes from parent folders only at the time they are created. Changes to the approval routing of the parent folder are not inherited after the subfolder is created. You must manage these settings separately for each folder.
