About the Properties page for a document in the backward-compatible document library
You can view and edit information associated with a document by using the Properties page of the specific document.
- You can view document properties in read-only mode without checking a document out, but to edit the properties, you must first check out the document.
- A new version of the document is created in draft form when you edit document properties.
- If the coordinator has configured an approval process on the folder in which you are working, you must check in the document and submit it for approval before the revised document can replace a previously approved version.
You can view and edit the following document properties for documents stored in enhanced folders:
- General This section of the Properties page of a document contains basic information about the document. This includes information such as file name, size, creation date, last modified date, location, version number, status (showing whether the document is checked in, approved, etc.), and related information. You cannot change this information directly, but you can cause changes by altering the document itself.
- Document profile Every document in the document library has a document profile that contains a set of document properties. If you want to edit the information on a document profile, you can do so by using this section of the Properties page for your document.
- Security If you are a coordinator, you can deny access to users for specific documents that reside in the folders for which you are a coordinator.
Note Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 users cannot select roles for document library users.
- Version history You can access the version history of the document by clicking the History tab of the Properties page of the document. Use this section of the Properties page to view previous versions of a document. This can be useful for reviewing or tracking progress on a project.
