The evaluation version of Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 has an evaluation period of 120 days. The evaluation period begins when the evaluation copy of SharePoint Portal Server is installed.
After 120 days, the following error message appears in the event application log: "The evaluation period on this version of SharePoint Portal Server has expired." Server and export data will not be available. Users who search for items on the portal site receive an error message telling them that the search service is unavailable and to contact the administrator of the portal site.
If you are upgrading to SharePoint Portal Server from a server that has an expired copy of the evaluation version of SharePoint Portal Server, you can recover the server and export data that you need to upgrade by changing the date and time on your server to a date within the evaluation period, and then exporting any data that you want to preserve to another server.
